Five of the elite NXT has to offer will battle it out for a chance to be recognized as the first NXT North American Champion in the "new" NXT.

Four weeks of grueling qualifying matches (thank took place during the NXT Return To NYC tour) has come to this. Jack Gallagher used underhanded tactics to defeat EC3 on the 26 July Year IV edition of NXT (with EC3 later being added to the match). While Roderick Strong, Velveteen Dream and Drew Gulak overcame their respective opponents in impressive fashion to earn their spots in the Championship Open that is one fall to the finish with the NXT North American Championship on the line.
