At the [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8fUwHPtsLk4 2017 WWE Draft] special, it was revealed that Balor was behind Karl Anderson and Luke Gallows betraying AJ Styles at [[WWE Payback (2017)|Payback]], costing him the WWE Undisputed Title in the process. On the [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wO_3qWan7SY May 2017 Week 2] edition of RAW, Finn Balor, flanked by his new club, interrupted new RAW GM Stone Cold Steve Austin, which led to the "Texas Rattlesnake" making the main event match between Balor and Dean Ambrose, with the winner facing Shinsuke Nakamura at [[WWE Judgment Day (2017)|Judgment Day]] for the Intercontinental Title, much to the dismay of The Club, later on that night, Balor defeated Ambrose to retain his spot against Nakamura, but the night was far from over, a very vengeful AJ Styles jumped the barricade, looking to get to Balor, but was thwarted by his two former best friends, Anderson and Gallows, which led to Finn Balor hitting "The Phenomenal One" with a spike-piledriver, an illegal move in WWE. On the [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p6KIVIxoqAs&t=119s May 2017 Week 2] edition of Smackdown Live, Finn Balor invaded the blue brand following his Judgment Day opponent, Nakamura's match and attacked him with a spike-piledriver, which led to General Manager Shawn Michaels banning Finn Balor from Smackdown Live all together, which didn't seem to bother the former NXT Champion. On the [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=53bud0KYIeQ&t=207s May 2017 Week 3] edition of RAW, The Balor Club faced AJ Styles and his hand-picked tag team partner, Intercontinental Champion, Shinsuke Nakamura, but lost by disqualification due to Karl Anderson's use of a steel chair, which eventually revealed to be a set-up as the lights went black and came back on, revealing a new member of the Notorious faction, Dean Ambrose, much to the shock of AJ Styles and the dismay of the WWE Universe, after Ambrose hit the dirty deeds on Styles, Finn Balor hit a second spike-piledriver on his rival and then led Dean Ambrose to attack and lay out his former friend, Shinsuke Nakamura on the floor, leaving with an advantage in his upcoming title match and a new ally in the process.

Bio

Meet Finn Bálor: Athletic, charismatic, occasionally demonic, and a bonafide worldwide sensation.

The WWE Universe may know Bálor for his exploits in NXT or his first-round status in the 2016 WWE Brand Extension Draft, but the mysterious Irishman’s legend spanned across countries and continents long before he ever stepped onto the WWE stage. After competing in his first match at 18 and achieving success in his homeland, Bálor relocated to Japan to hone his skills in the notorious dojo system of the Far East. Unsurprisingly, he thrived, winning multiple championships and marshalling several foot soldiers to support him (some even called him a prince). With The Land of the Rising Sun annexed to the Bálor Club, he relocated to America to ply his trade in NXT.

Choosing to honor his heritage by taking the names of two Irish myths — the warrior Finn MacCumhail and the Fomorian king Bálor — the dynamic Superstar quickly rose in the ranks of NXT, achieving a record-setting run with the NXT Championship and becoming one of the first winners of the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic along with Samoa Joe.

The combination of his quiet, deadly precision and his periodic transformation into the terrifying "Demon King" made Bálor one of the hottest WWE commodities in over a decade, so it came as little surprise when he was the first NXT graduate to be taken in the 2016 WWE Brand Extension Draft, going fifth overall to Raw.

Then, at SummerSlam 2016, Finn Bálor reached his greatest achievement to date when he pinned Seth Rollins to become the first-ever Universal Champion, but extensively dislocated his right shoulder in the process — an injury that would sideline him seven months before his triumphant return on the final Carnage after WrestleMania 33.
